How many times can I say – “I love living here!”? I mean, honestly.
Garner…North Carolina…the Triangle…is SUCH a giving community and earlier today, it proved no different. I was blessed to be a witness to why too.
Our local grocery store chain, Lowes Foods, and specifically the Garner store, which I absolutely LOVE, kicked off their annual “Friends Feeding Friends” holiday meals campaign benefiting our local food bank, The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.
It’s easy to participate in Friends Feeding Friends. You can purchase a pre-packed bag of groceries OR you can give monetarily. In times like these where unemployment remains high in North Carolina and families are still struggling, a campaign like this is very important in the fight against hunger in our community. You know me…I FIGHT hunger! As a matter of fact, as a Social Media Ambassador for the Food Bank, I was invited to be at today’s event to help raise awareness. The goal this year is to provide 1 million meals in the communities Lowes Foods services. We can do that, right?
Today’s event also included some special guests – my friend and Garner Mayor, Ronnie Williams, a local cub scout troop, AND the pride of Garner – Scotty McCreery. Scotty was there to lend his support for his former place of employment and the cause.
I’ve explained NUMEROUS times how much of a fan of Scotty’s I am so I won’t go into detail here. What I will say though is I was very impressed with his patience and willingness to meet with every fan in attendance that wanted a picture or autograph or both…including myself (thus the image you see above!).
For Scotty, though, he doesn’t just lend celebrity to causes he supports, he genuinely cares about his community and about people in general. Whether it’s fighting hunger or providing a gift to the less fortunate at Christmas time, Scotty’s there to do what he can and today was no different. It was an honor to (finally) meet him and to watch his humble nature in action. Below are some of my images from today that I’m sure many of his fans will appreciate.
I close with this, though…YOU have the power to make a difference in your community this holiday season. Do something! I don’t care what it is, but do something. Give to the hungry and/or homeless in your community, read to a child, give a coat or a toy for a tot, donate your time to a cause YOU support, whatever. Just do something.
If you’re interested in contributing to Friends Feeding Friends, read more on the official Lowes Foods website.
Thanks to all who came today, especially Scotty. Together, we CAN fight hunger in our communities. Together we CAN make a difference!
