Help Us “Stop Summer Hunger” in the Triangle
The image above is our volunteer committee for the upcoming Food Bank 24-Hr Telethon, September 13th & 14th. I’ll be writing more about that in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
The Food Bank of CENC “Stop Summer Hunger” Program is 500K Short. Please Help!
I want to paint a picture for you. Imagine if you will, that little boy or little girl playing with your little boy or little girl. You know, the one smiling and laughing, taking his or her turn on the slip-n-slide, anxiously awaiting that ice cream cone from the ice cream truck that just made its way down your neighborhood street. That boy. That girl. He/she looks content, don’t they? But, perhaps what you don’t know is that same child is on the free and reduced lunch program at school. However, because it’s summertime, he/she isn’t getting at least one square meal a day. So, that ice cream is more than just a treat to him/her. It’s a meal. Sobering thought? Huh?
There are over 300,000 children in The Triangle and surrounding communities that live that every single day. Some might be obvious (they already live in low-income housing, they go to church each Sunday wearing the same outfit from the previous Sunday because that’s all they own, etc.); others aren’t so much. Others are just like that child slippin’ and slidin’ with yours. Perhaps their mom or dad is going through struggles that you aren’t aware of – a lay off, lack of food stamp assistance, is sick and medicine takes precedence over nutrition.
The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina’s “Stop Summer Hunger” program exists to help these children. Through the funds raised, the Food Bank can continue running its programs that help provide nutrition to these children in the summer months when they would otherwise receive during the school year. School’s out still. Children are still hungry. This should not be the case.
The Stop Summer Hunger initiative is in its final days and is 500,000 meals short of their 3 Million meal goal (as of last Wednesday). As a Social Media Ambassador for the Food Bank, as a person dedicated to helping raise awareness for the hungry in our community so we can end hunger all together, if you have even just $10 to give to the cause, will you…please?
No child should go hungry. No one. No matter the circumstance (it is not for YOU to judge), no child should go hungry.
Help the children in the 34 county service area the Food Bank serves and donate to the Stop Summer Program today. Just click the button above. It’s that easy!
The campaign ends Wednesday. Personally, I’d like to receive an email from the org with positive news that they met or exceeded their goal. I believe they can. With your help they will.
