Design Box Raleigh Hosts First Friday Instagram Exhibit

This past weekend, Raleigh’s designer workspace bringing co-working to a whole new level, Design Box, hosted a unique art show.  Simply titled, “Greetings From Raleigh” the exhibit showcased 100s of color photos from some of the Triangle’s own telling Raleigh’s story from various viewpoints alongside professional photographer Cheryl Gottschall’s gorgeous framed pieces.

You might not think that’s very unique but the majority of the photographs were not professionally taken.  As a matter of fact, they weren’t even shot using high-end digital cameras.  Rather, every single Polaroid-size image was shot with the iPhone app, Instagram.  Yep, that’s right – an iPhone app.

Instagram has only been in existence since 2010 but it’s quickly gaining recognition from the tech community, especially those in the social media space and people who love sharing photos with their followers, friends, and connections.  It’s simple to use.

Once installed, open the app, hit the “share” button, take a picture (or select one from your phone library), add a filter to it (from one of several free options), then hit “done”.  Instagram then shares the image with whichever service you’ve connected it to (Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, or even email).  It also places the image in your Instagram account AND in your iPhone image library.  Easy-peasy!

The “Greetings From Raleigh” exhibit is so contemporary that it brings art shows to a whole new level.  Combining the professionalism of artist Cheryl Gottschall with the ordinary Triangle citizen using their iPhones to shoot pieces of art  – genius.  Think of “day in the life” with a new twist!

Located at 323 W. Martin St in downtown Raleigh, the Design Box exhibit is open weekdays 11am-6pm through April 27th so be sure to check it out.

Kudos to curators Erin Conigliaro, Britt Hayes, and Beth Khalifa for putting on a FUN & fabulous exhibition!

Just another example of what I love about the Triangle!
