Yet Another Tribute – Billy Mays RIP

Whether it was the wide bright smile, the impeccably shaved beard, or that loud booming voice, TV viewers everywhere pretty much knew who Billy Mays was and if you’re one of those that didn’t, that begs the question, where have you been these last few years?

Announced officially only a short time ago by several news sites, TV Pitchman for such products as OxiClean, Orange Glo, and a host of other “as seen on TV” products, Billy Mays was found dead this morning by his own wife in his home in the Tampa Bay area. Cause of death is unknown at this time.

But, speculation has already started (and I’m one of those that immediately thought about this too). All signs are pointing to his rough landing on a US Airways jet as it landed in Tampa last evening. According to reports, the jet blew out a tire on landing and as things began to fall from the ceiling, something hit Billy hard on the head as he was quoted by a local TV Station (as reported by celebrity site TMZ). Could he have been hit so hard that it caused the same type of brain bleed as what actress Natasha Richardson suffered in March ultimately causing her own death? According to that same article, sources are saying that when he returned home at 6:00pm last night, he was acting as normal. But, could there have been such a slow bleed that anything unnormal would go noticed while sleeping that night?

Once again, I’m in a state of shock. Billy Mays was only 50. And once again, it’s another shocking death ala Michael Jackson just three short days ago. Probably one of the most real signs that this man was enjoying life – his Twitter feed. It’s all just so sad.

Say what you want about those infamous commercials. The fact of the matter is this was a vibrant middle-aged man, young at heart, with a wonderful family, and a pretty darn good career to boot! My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to his family in their time of sorrow.

Once again, a celebrity…and a man…gone too soon. Rest in Peace, Billy Mays.
